Report of the three-day National Workshop on Examination Reforms in Higher Education held in Deccan College Postgraduate & Research Institute, Deemed University, Pune 411006 from 14th to 16th November 2017.

Theme of the Workshop:
"Education through Ages in India: Ancient perspectives and modern methods of evaluation".
Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed University jointly with Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi organised three days National Workshop on examination reforms in Higher Education. The discussions highlighted the need for holistic approach to education, evaluation and fresh inputs on the very concept of reforms were at the centre stage of the three day proceedings and the output has made the endeavour a memorable academic and administrative event ever held specifically on such a topic in India so far.
The three-day workshop was attended by thirty five participants who included professors and administrators from nearly 15 universities /educational institutes across India. The fourteen resource persons who delivered key notes, session key notes and guest lecturers highlighted the need of implementation of reforms from grass root level of learning to the evaluation that prepares the student community for the litmus tests on the wider platform of competitive world of today.
The resource persons included luminaries in the field of education, management, law, medicine and engineering from various parts of the country. It was a perfect amalgamation of academic and administrative dimension to examination reforms where a detailed introspection of teaching and evaluation methods in practice in ancient India provided a prelude to the foundations of the educational system in India. The concept and philosophy of imparting the knowledge system to the students was a key issue in the level of performance and education to build up a personality of the generation, eventually helping build the personality of the nation.
The Sessions held were based on the sub-themes of the workshop which included the following:
i. Model Evaluation System: Different Approaches (case studies of the Credit Based Evaluation pattern followed in different universities).
ii. Choice Based Evaluation System and Credit Transfers.
iii. Feasibility of On-Demand Examination System
iv. Internal Evaluation Vs External Mode of Evaluation
v. Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in Higher Education.
The participants were highly appreciative of the three day workshop. The theme running from philosophy to technique, i.e. from the very basic concept of education (in ancient times) to evaluation provided a complete canvass of academic and administrative spread sheet of activities that was received with applause and stimulating discussions. The participation of Professor & Head, Department of Education, Prof Sanjeev Sonawane, Deputy Registrar Shri P. Bhadakwade and technical experts Dr Rajendra Talware, Shri Lalit Pawar, Shri Nikhil Kashid of the SPPU as resource persons, Pune for delivering the lectures on technical now how of the online examinations was the epitome of the workshop. All the presentations of the resource persons and key note speakers have been shared amongst all the participants so that the latest reforms/suggestions/inputs could be considered by the respective universities. The take home message has been very fruitful, interpretative and interactive, which was the basic purpose behind organizing this event.
